American President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine is nearing its end, asserting that Moscow and Kiev could soon reach an agreement. The statements of the White House leader come after the expiration of the three-day truce brokered by the USA, which Russia refused to extend, resuming large-scale attacks on Ukraine.

“The end of the war in Ukraine, I truly believe it is very near,” Trump told journalists before his departure on an official visit to China.

The American leader stated that he is convinced that Russia and Ukraine will reach an agreement, without providing details about the possible conditions of the agreement or the stage of the negotiations. His statements largely reiterate the messages recently promoted by the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin, who argued that the war is nearing its end.

In the same context, Donald Trump admitted that he might make a visit to Russia within this year.

When asked by a journalist from the Russian propaganda agency TASS about the possibility of a trip to Moscow, the American president responded: “Maybe. I will do whatever is necessary. This war is nearing its end. Believe it or not, it’s approaching.” Trump, however, did not provide information regarding a possible schedule or format of such a visit.

The statements come against the backdrop of new diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow. Vladimir Putin’s advisor, Yuri Ushakov, had previously announced that Russia expects a visit from special representatives of Donald Trump soon for discussions on the Ukrainian dossier.

According to information appeared in the international press, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were supposed to first visit Kiev, then Moscow. Their visit to the capital of Ukraine, initially scheduled after Easter, has been postponed several times, and the negotiation process seems, at present, to be stalled.

Vladimir Putin would have invited Donald Trump to Moscow ever since their meeting last summer in Anchorage.
