The most recent EU sanctions package against Russia targets 56 entities and individuals from the military industry, including long-range drone networks and communication systems. Experts say the measures could support not only Ukraine’s battlefield efforts, but also the future security of Europe, notes Euronews.

Dozens of companies in the defense sector and citizens who support the Kremlin’s war machine have been targeted in the 21st package of sanctions against Russia.

“Over 50 entities from the military industry are included, as well as key players involved in the production of Russian long-range drones,” declared on Thursday the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, on the day of the measures’ adoption. “Russia will negotiate the cessation of its illegal war and will stop killing civilians only if it is pressured to do so. Sanctions add to this pressure.”

Through the new package of sanctions, the EU continues to target suppliers of dual-use goods and technologies from third countries, such as those from China and India. These technologies are often found in Russian weaponry, such as rockets, drones and tanks.

However, the attention of European officials and experts is focused on two relatively new measures from the military component of the package.

It’s about over 30 designations targeting the entire production and supply network of the long-range Garpia drones, as well as the Russian rival of the Starlink satellite system, known as Rassvet.
