The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the National Police have detained eight Russian agents involved in sabotage operations in southern Ukraine, as well as two individuals from western Ukraine whom the Russian secret services tried to manipulate into committing arson attacks.

“These turned out to be men aged between 19 and 73, remotely recruited by the enemy under the pretext of ‘easy gains’. Another two were deceived by Russians posing as SSU officers”, the agency stated, according to News.

In Odessa, security officers caught a local unemployed man “in flagrante” while trying to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) under a railway line.

The man had collected the explosive from a hideout previously prepared by Russian agents. The SSU officers also detained another seven individuals in the Odessa region, who had set fire to relay cabinets on local railways to disrupt Ukrainian military logistics.

They filmed the arson attacks to report them to their superiors in Russia. In Lviv, two 19-year-old residents were discovered after they had set fire to a post office and residential entrances, following the Russians’ instructions.
