Spain has urgently dispatched its top frigate, Cristóbal Colón (F105), to support the air defense of Cyprus, following drone attacks on the British base RAF Akrotiri. The warship will join a multinational European naval force led by the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle (R91), along with ships from the Netherlands, Greece, and Italy, to protect the island and for possible civilian evacuations.

The Spanish frigate will operate in the eastern Mediterranean, approximately 150 miles off the coast of Israel, and will contribute to the protection of Cyprus against aerial threats, according to The Telegraph. British officials have stated that Monday morning’s drone attack caused minimal damage and no casualties, emphasizing that the drone was not launched from Iran.

Britain has sent the air defense destroyer HMS Dragon (D35), accompanied by Wildcat helicopters equipped with anti-drone missiles, and France has redirected its carrier group to the region. Italy will send additional naval resources and air defense systems to its Gulf partners, said Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, confirming statements by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
