Two explosions took place on Tuesday morning in Damascus, the capital of Syria. The blasts occurred during the visit of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

According to international press, the explosions took place near the hotel where the French leader was staying, and authorities have implemented security measures, reports IPN.

One of the bombs was placed in a garbage bin, while the other was in a vehicle near the Four Seasons hotel, where Emmanuel Macron was staying. At the moment they exploded, the French leader was at the presidential palace, discussing with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

For now, there is no tally of the victims or the damage caused by the explosions, and the attacks have not been claimed. The French presidency announced that Emmanuel Macron’s schedule has not been affected and that the official will continue his official visit.

The French President is the first Western leader to visit Syria following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024.
