Several Moldovan civil servants were notified by email that they risk being fired if they do not know English. This would be a “condition” for Moldova’s accession to the European Union. The letter was attributed to the European Commission. The same letter states that the LGBT flag must be hung in front of Moldovan ministries, more precisely – on days when holidays attributed to sexual minorities are marked. The government in Chisinau called the information false, coming from an equally false email. According to Chisinau, state institutions are taking action to identify the people who promote the fakes.

Government spokesman Daniel Vodă said that the letter came from a false email addressed to several Moldovan civil servants.

“It is attributed to the European Commission and provides certain instructions or messages to civil servants in our country, referring, for example, among other things, to the fact that civil servants must be able to speak English in order to continue their activity in the public service. We must say very clearly, in the coming period we will have more such attempts, which will be stopped from the start by the state authorities, to transmit these forgeries and these lies in order to misinform citizens. (…) This letter, like its entire content, is a fake. (…) It does not belong to the institution to which it claims to belong. All communication of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union is carried out through official channels, it is in plain sight, it is communicated by those responsible through the official accounts of both the Government and the EU Delegation, for example, in our country”, Vodă specified.

He also said that the authorities, at the current stage, have identified all the e-mail addresses “that received this spam”.

“We saw that it was about assigning a false identity, an equally false email was used and this fabrication was made – a letter – which also promotes narratives that we have heard in the public space. A very clear message to all officials at this stage, if you receive messages that you suspect are untrue – report them to the specialized IT services. If private companies or other companies in the country receive these spams or other content, which may be fake, do not hesitate to report them, block the address from which they were sent and do not react in any way if these fakes are confirmed”, Vodă communicated.

According to Vodă, all state institutions “do their job and identify those people who want to promote these lies and fakes”.
