France and Poland are expected to conduct exercises with a nuclear component over the Baltic Sea, during which they would simulate strikes on targets in Russia, according to onet.pl, which cites the Wirtualna Polska portal.
The maneuvers are scheduled to take place soon on NATO’s eastern flank, mainly over the Baltic Sea and the north of Poland. They are part of France’s nuclear umbrella expansion to cover countries threatened by Russia’s aggressive policies. The exercises are taking place following the decisions announced by Emmanuel Macron in Brest on March 2, 2026, according to the Polish army.
Following the visit of the French president to Poland on April 20th and his discussions with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the military cooperation between the two countries is set to enter the practical phase.
The French nuclear warheads will not be permanently deployed in Poland, but will be periodically deployed under the Rafale aircraft, which will participate in joint exercises with the Polish Air Forces. During these exercises, Polish pilots will be responsible for long-range reconnaissance, target recognition, and conventional weapon attacks, including JASSM-ER cruise missiles launched from F-16 aircraft. These missiles are hypothetically intended to target so-called high-value targets in the Saint Petersburg area.
