A member of the State Duma’s Security Committee, Mihail Şeremet, stated that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation should organize exercises simulating nuclear strikes on replicas of iconic buildings in the US and Europe, to “terrify” the West.

“Russia has played the peacemaker role for too long, unsuccessfully trying to find a compromise with the aggressive West. It means that it’s high time we built a fake Pentagon, a fake Big Ben, and a fake Eiffel Tower to conduct a test by launching a devastating retaliatory nuclear attack on these splendid targets,” the deputy told News.ru. In Şeremet’s opinion, only such a “blast from the recent past” will be understood by “Russia’s enemies” and will cool their “radioactive enthusiasm for many years”.

On November 5, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, asked the Ministry of Defense and other agencies to submit proposals for the resumption of nuclear tests after a 35-year hiatus. He clarified that Russia currently respects the treaty prohibiting such tests, but is prepared to take retaliatory measures if someone violates it.
