Russian students who will learn to pilot drones could receive additional points on the unified state exam (EGE) for admission to universities, through the GTO (“Ready for Labor and Defense”) standards.

The announcement was made on May 19 by the Minister of Sports, Mihail Degtiariov, during the National Congress of Physical Education Teachers in the Tula region.

According to the official, starting this year, a drone piloting test will be introduced as part of the GTO program. From next year, the drone operating exam can be taken by anyone from across the country.

The additional points gained by meeting the GTO standards are taken into account in the individual achievement system used for university admissions, however within the limits set by the Ministry of Education and Science.

According to the explanations provided by the online school “Sinergia”, in 2025 the maximum number of additional points awarded for all individual achievements – including GTO, diplomas of excellence, volunteer activities and other merits – was 10 points.
