The US threatens to halt the procurement system through which Ukraine receives weapons, with the aim of exerting pressure on Kiev to cease deep attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, reported the Financial Times on Sunday, citing European officials, according to Reuters, as reported by Agerpres.
The respective officials, who were called by American representatives or were informed about these calls, stated that the US is making efforts with European capitals and Kiev to try to put an end to the attacks on Russian oil refineries, the article further mentions.
Reuters could not immediately verify the information in the article. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the subject.
The message conveyed by the USA included threats regarding the cessation of intelligence information exchange and the PURL mechanism (Priority List regarding Ukraine’s needs) for the acquisition of American weaponry intended for Ukraine, the publication added.
“Call Kiev… Call everyone (in Europe)“, declared an official who received a call from a representative of the US defense, according to Financial Times.
The report comes after the US President, Donald Trump, made a surprise announcement on Sunday regarding an energy truce between Russia and Ukraine, which he said “takes effect immediately”, but the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is still waiting to see the details of the agreement.
