On Wednesday, German parliamentarians gave the green light to the acquisition of kamikaze drones by the German army. These weapons will equip the German brigade deployed in Lithuania amid threats from Russia, reports Agerpres, citing AFP.

The decision adopted by the Budget Committee of the Bundestag represents a “very important step forward,” declared the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius.

According to specialists, the country has remained “far behind” in terms of the use of military drones and is currently accelerating its deterrence mechanisms against threats from Moscow.

The first kamikaze drones, supplied by two German companies, one of which has ties to a Trump associate

The so-called kamikaze drones, which can remain in the air for long periods of time before hitting their targets, will be supplied by two German start-ups, Stark Defence, based in Berlin, and Helsing, based in Munich.

The related contracts have an initial value of 536 million euros, and international press reports do not specify the number of drones to be delivered.

However, journalists have noted that American billionaire Peter Thiel, a close associate of Donald Trump, holds a stake in Stark Defence company.
