Germany has tested how hospitals could treat wounded soldiers in a potential devastating conflict on NATO’s eastern flank, including their evacuation from the region to German hospitals. Through the “Medic Quadriga” exercise, the German military and civilian authorities have checked whether the medical system is prepared to handle a large number of casualties in the event of a military crisis in countries on the eastern flank, such as the Baltic countries, Poland or Romania.
The Medical Service of the German Armed Forces has practiced the rescue chain and the treatment of the wounded in German hospitals, according to FAZ.
With 1000 soldiers and about 250 civilian employees of the federal government, states and non-governmental organizations, Medic Quadriga is the largest and most complex exercise of the medical service since the beginning of the Russian aggression war against Ukraine. For the first time, large-scale patient transport in Germany – for example, at Berlin-Schönefeld airport – and subsequent patient care were carried out over the weekend.
A flight carrying simulated casualties arrived at Schönefeld on Friday; their care en route and subsequent distribution to Berlin hospitals were tested. In addition to Bundestag members, the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, was also present at the event.
