Vladimir Putin has made his first statements regarding Greenland, following the harsh speech delivered by Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Therefore, the leader of Russia estimated, during a Security Council meeting held on Wednesday, that the United States could acquire Greenland for an amount between 200 and 250 million dollars, similar to the one paid for the purchase of Alaska from his country in 1867.

However, Vladimir Putin mentioned that “if we compare it with the price of gold at that time, this amount would have been larger, probably close to a billion”.

He expressed his belief that Washington “can handle this amount”. “Putin also expressed his belief that the US and Denmark will be able to resolve the Greenland issue between them.

In addition, Putin stated that “Denmark has always treated Greenland as a colony and treated it quite harshly, if not with cruelty”, notes the Baha news agency.

Previously, US President Donald Trump announced that he and the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte, formed “the framework of a future agreement on Greenland.

Putin accepted the invitation to the “Peace Council”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, in Davos, that Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted his invitation to join the “Council for Peace”, considered a competitor to the UN.

However, Vladimir Putin had announced a few minutes earlier that he had ordered his Foreign Ministry to study this invitation before being able to respond.

“The Russian Foreign Ministry was tasked to study the documents that were sent to us and to consult our strategic partners in this regard,” Putin said during a government meeting. Trump for this initiative.

Vladimir Putin also stated that Russia could pay the billion dollars requested as an entrance ticket for a permanent place from the “Russian wealth frozen under the former American administration” due to the war in Ukraine. He also suggested that Russian funds remaining blocked in the United States could be used for “reconstruction of territories affected by hostilities, after the conclusion of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine”.

“It is essential that the whole process has a favorable effect on the long-term resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the relevant resolutions of the United Nations. It is necessary for the inalienable needs and desires of the Palestinians to be taken into account,” he added, stating that Moscow will support “all efforts aimed at strengthening international stability”.

According to the White House, the “Council for Peace” proposed by Donald Trump aims to develop a plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
