Evghenia Guțul, convicted in the first instance for complicity in the illegal financing of Șor’s parties, wrote a book in prison. The volume is entitled “The Guțul Case. Anatomy of Political Persecution”.

The book includes several letters from the condemned governor of Gagauzia and discusses the conditions of detention. It is only available online and can be downloaded in Russian, English or Turkish.

“This book is neither a confession nor a volume of memoirs. It is merely proof that they did not break me. And if you hold it in your hands, it means I have already won. Now I am in a prison cell. It is damp and moldy here, and at night cockroaches and mice run around. Recently, a huge cockroach, as big as my thumb, entered the cell. I’ve never seen anything like it, not even in the countryside. I was very scared,” writes Guțul.

The release of the book takes place shortly before the Central Court of Appeal is to rule in the case in which Guțul is accused, reports newsmaker.md The verdict will be pronounced on May 28.

The Governor of Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul, was sentenced in the first instance to 7 years in prison, in August 2025. According to prosecutors, between 2019-2022, she was involved in the systematic introduction into Moldova of unaccounted money, originating from an organized criminal group, predominantly from the Russian Federation.

Guțul does not acknowledge his guilt and appealed the sentence to the Court of Appeal.
