The Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas strongly criticized Hungary’s withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC). On Thursday, they called on the Hungarian government to immediately join the ICC and then arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently in Budapest, according to hirado.hu.

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in November last year for “war crimes” committed in Gaza. According to UN figures, more than 50,000 people, mostly women and children, have died in Israeli military operations from October 2023 until now.The Hungarian government announced its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court prior to Netanyahu’s visit to Budapest. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban held a joint press conference with his Israeli counterpart on Thursday. Orban emphasized that the withdrawal from the ICC was necessary because the institution had been turned into a political court. Hamas condemned the Hungarian government’s decision in a statement released on Thursday. “We consider Hungary’s decision to be an immoral position, which constitutes clear complicity with a war criminal who is fleeing international justice, through a flagrant violation of international law and principles of human justice. This measure undermines international justice and reinforces the double standards applied by certain Western countries, particularly Hungary and the United States. This attitude guarantees impunity for criminals and threatens global peace and stability,” the Palestinian terrorist organization stated, cited by the Turkish press agency Anadolu Ajansi.
