Patriarch Kirill is targeted in the 21st package of EU sanctions against Russia. The church leader is accused of justifying, supporting, and promoting the war.
Under his real name, Vladimir Gundyaev, Kirill claimed that the sins of Russians who died on the front will be forgiven, and he called Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “holy war”.
The EU will also sanction the president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Arkady Dvorkovich.
