Robert Garcia, the Democratic congressman poised to become the next chair of the U.S. House Oversight Committee, delivered a two-word message to Republicans: “Lawyer up!”
According to The Hill, the statement comes as Democrats on the committee have launched several investigations into the activities of President Donald Trump’s administration.
The investigation into the activities of Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, has enjoyed bipartisan support and is expected to continue.
However, Democrats on the committee expressed a desire to speak with more Trump administration officials about what they knew of Epstein’s activities.
The Democrats also launched several investigations of their own, including one into the work of the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by billionaire Elon Musk, and requested information about the activities of several immigration agencies.
They also investigated several officials accused of exploiting their government positions, including in connection with President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency ventures.
They also recently requested information from Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former U.S. ambassador to Greece, following reports that she had allegedly asked a Trump ally for money to pay off her credit card debts ahead of her confirmation hearing.
