Russia will begin, for the first time after a long period, to import gasoline by sea to cope with the fuel deficit that arose following drone attacks on refineries, reports Reuters, citing four industry sources.

The gasoline will be delivered in one of the ports in the west of the Russian Federation from one of the countries in Asia, specified one of the agency’s interlocutors.

Last year, following the series of attacks on refineries during the summer, Russian authorities had already considered the possibility of purchasing gasoline from China, Singapore, and South Korea. The Reuters sources did not specify where the gasoline will be delivered from this time.

Currently, Moscow is actively acquiring gasoline from Belarus: from January to May, deliveries from two refineries in Belarus have increased 13 times — up to 270 thousand tons. Diesel deliveries have tripled, reaching 179 thousand tons.

Additionally, Russian officials have requested gasoline from Kazakhstan, Reuters sources reported. However, neither of the countries – neither Belarus nor Kazakhstan – have sufficient capacities to significantly support the Russian fuel market.
