Hungary and Slovakia are planning to build a direct connection between their oil refineries in Bratislava and Szazhalombatta to limit what Budapest describes as the potential for blackmail by the Ukrainian leadership, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced in Brussels on Monday.

The head of Hungarian diplomacy announced at a press conference following a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council that he had signed an important agreement earlier in the day with the Slovak Minister of Economy, Denisa Sakova, on the basis of which the two countries will build a new pipeline connecting the refineries in Bratislava and Szazhalombatta.

This is expected to be completed in the first half of next year, reports TASR, according to Agerpres.

“It will be a 127-kilometer pipeline, capable of transporting 1.5 million tons of petroleum products, diesel and gasoline. This will represent an additional added value for Hungary’s energy supply and can protect against the consequences of world wars and the wrong policies of Brussels,” Szijjarto mentioned.
