The Hungarian Parliament approved on Tuesday by a large majority the creation of the National Asset Recovery Office (NVVH), an initiative aimed at recovering funds allegedly embezzled during the previous government of Viktor Orban, reports the EFE agency, quoted by Agerpres.

The bill, proposed by the governing party Tisza of the conservative Prime Minister Peter Magyar, in power since May, received 143 votes in favor and 46 against, while ten members of parliament abstained, according to the news site 444.hu.

Being a matter of a constitutional law, its approval requires a two-thirds majority.

Following the overwhelming victory in the parliamentary elections on April 12, Tisza holds 141 out of the 199 seats in the unicameral parliament.

The six members of the parliament from the far-right party Mi Hazank supported the creation of the office, while 46 out of the 52 deputies from the Fidesz party, led by Orban himself, voted against the bill.
