Nicușor Dan will not nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister. Consultations with the parties are again at an impasse, following discussions with Sorin Grindeanu, Ilie Bolojan, Dominic Fritz, Kelemen Hunor, and Varujan Pambuccian.
The negotiations ended after an hour, without an agreement. The President has two options on the table: the formation of a PSD Government with Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu or a PNL-USR-UDMR Government with Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan. Neither side alone has a majority in Parliament, according to hotnews.ro.
“We have returned to the political deadlock that we believed was overcome on Tuesday. Based on the positions of the parties during consultations, there was only one formula that seemed to gather the support of a parliamentary majority: a minority PSD government. On Tuesday, PNL committed to vote for a minority PSD government, with certain conditions regarding the governing program. From Tuesday until today, PNL has changed its position,” said Nicușor Dan after consultations.
The leader from Cotroceni has asked the parties to negotiate and present the version they will agree upon.
“It is the responsibility of the parties to negotiate among themselves a majority for any form of government they deem appropriate. I continue to ask them to return to dialogue. Romania needs a government with full powers,” said Nicușor Dan.
