Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that he would like to meet with Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. The statement was made in an interview given to the New York Post publication.
According to the US President, the new Supreme Leader of Iran is genuinely involved in the decisions made in Tehran.
“I would like to meet him. I would like to meet everyone and we will probably meet, depending on what will happen”, Trump said.
The statement is made against the backdrop of reciprocal attacks between the USA and Iran on positions in the Middle East, reports Agerpres. In Trump’s opinion, the Iranians have great respect for Khamenei.
Severely wounded after an Israeli bombing targeted a complex in Tehran on the first day of the war, Mojtaba Khamenei has never appeared in public or in video recordings since he was appointed ayatollah on March 8, only written messages being attributed to him. He took the place of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in that Israeli attack.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Tuesday that Washington estimates that Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei is alive.
