Vladimir Putin has given instructions to the power and security institutions to ensure the protection of Kaliningrad. At least that’s what his advisor, Nikolai Patrushev, former head of the FSB, claims.
The official believes that NATO countries “will not put their threats into practice, they will remain at the level of words”, according to Agerpres.
“If they even try to do something, an appropriate and immediate reaction will follow. I’ve said this multiple times (…) If they undertake any kind of aggressive action, they will regret it,” Patrușev threatened.
A day earlier, NATO had confirmed that Moscow had sent a message warning that it would use nuclear weapons if Alliance members blocked the Kaliningrad region.
On Wednesday, the Russian Embassy in Ireland warned that “NATO is preparing an air and maritime blockade of Kaliningrad,” and Putin’s administration will try to prevent these actions.
