Misleading information about alleged investment schemes, using the names of personalities from Moldova, including President Maia Sandu, former head of state Mircea Snegur, and Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, has been spread on the internet. The materials promote false earning opportunities through fraudulent platforms.

The National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF) warns that this is online fraud, reports Realitatea. Citizens are urged to be cautious and not to fall into the trap of scammers. To increase trust, false elements are presented, such as government programs.

“Such schemes are based on the use of the image of known individuals, associated with deceptive marketing techniques and psychological pressure, to create a false appearance of credibility and gain public trust, with the aim of persuading people to transfer money or disclose personal and financial data. Among the main signs of a possible investment fraud are incomplete or hard-to-verify information about the promoted platform, promises of guaranteed earnings or unrealistic returns, and the lack of any authorization or oversight by a competent authority”, CNPF reports.

Tactics to increase interest and psychological pressure are used, unrealistic promises of quick earnings, “limited offer” type messages, pressures for immediate transfers, cloning of official websites and documents.

Citizens are urged to always verify the authenticity of platforms, never to provide bank, personal or confirmation codes on websites or to unknown persons, and not to make money transfers to “investment platforms” without rigorous prior verification.

If such platforms are detected, the population is suggested to immediately notify the CNPF or the Police, and those who have become victims of fraud – to alert the authorities.
