The number of criminal cases brought against Russians for treason and espionage continues to break records. Just in 2025, the courts pronounced 458 sentences.
Compared to the year 2024, their number has increased by 24%, and no payments were recorded. The average was two verdicts every working day, with convictions being ordered for high treason, espionage, aiding enemies, and confidential collaboration with foreigners.
376 Russians were convicted for treason, 58 for espionage, 38 – for confidential collaboration with foreigners, according to The Moscow Times.
A single person ended up in prison for aiding the enemy, and human rights protection experts argue that usually the prosecution insists on reclassifying these cases as ones of treason.
