The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recommended on Wednesday that airlines avoid flying over Jordanian airspace. The country is under Iranian attacks.
“The recurrent Iranian missile attacks and, to a lesser extent, drone attacks on targets located in Jordan, as well as the activation of air defense systems, pose an increased risk,” EASA conveyed in a notification.
The Jordanian army announced on Wednesday that it had been targeted by two Iranian attacks and that it had intercepted six missiles and four drones.
In retaliation for the American bombings, Tehran struck Jordan, which is Washington’s ally in the Middle East.
The EU further recommends avoiding the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon.
The notification will change the flight plans of European companies, which estimate that it is safer to fly over Egypt and Saudi Arabia, for flights between Europe and Asia.
