The USA and Iran have made progress in the negotiations held on Tuesday, approaching a possible framework agreement to end the conflict, according to two American officials quoted by Axios.

The discussions are taking place in a tense context, where the two sides, supported by mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, are trying to overcome the disagreements that remained before the expiration of the current ceasefire, on April 22.

As part of these intense diplomatic efforts, a Pakistani delegation led by army commander, Marshal Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran on Wednesday for direct discussions with Iranian officials. However, sources close to the negotiations warn that an agreement is not guaranteed, considering the significant differences between the parties.

“Let’s wait and see if we can reach an agreement. We are optimistic and, consequently, we are trying to push things forward with both sides,” a Pakistani official declared.

Behind the scenes, President Donald Trump’s negotiation team – consisting of Vice President J.D. Vance, White House envoy Steve Witkoff, and advisor Jared Kushner – continued on Tuesday the exchange of proposals and phone discussions with the Iranian side and the mediators.

“They stayed on the phone and communicated through unofficial channels with all the involved countries and are nearing an agreement,” revealed an American official.

A second official confirmed the progress on Tuesday, and a third highlighted the difficulty of achieving total consensus within the Iranian leadership: “We want to conclude an agreement. And certain parts of their government want the same thing. Now the challenge is to bring the entire government there to the same table to conclude the agreement.”
