Iran has accused Romania of complicity in the war initiated by the USA in the Middle East. The Foreign Minister of Tehran, Esmail Baghaei, claims that the head of NATO gave explicit instructions to the authorities in Bucharest and Rome to participate in the offensive.

Baghaei reacted this way to the statements made on Fox News by NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, according to which “500 American planes took off from American bases in Italy” to support the Israeli-American military operation “Epic Fury”, launched against Iran on February 28, reports hotnews.ro.

Furthermore, Rutte said that Bucharest airport has reduced its commercial flights to make room for refuelling aircraft used in this operation.

As a result, the authorities in Bucharest have clarified that Romania did not participate in the conflict, and Bucharest’s priority was the constant support of diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation of the security situation in the Middle East.

“Romania is an allied country with responsibilities and commitments that it fully respects. We underline once again that all decisions Romania makes in exercising its sovereignty are carefully evaluated to ensure they are in accordance with the provisions of the UN Charter and relevant international law,” conveyed the diplomacy from Bucharest.

The Authority reminded that the decision was made in the context of the existing bilateral agreements with the USA.
