Iran has once again blocked the Strait of Hormuz and is asking Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon. The armistice negotiated by Donald Trump is about to be annulled after just a few hours, which has triggered harsh reactions in Washington.

Iran has once again halted transit through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the measure is a direct response to Israel’s attacks on Lebanon, which has shattered the fragile truce negotiated by Donald Trump.

In Washington, both Republicans and Democrats criticize what they consider to be an agreement built on concessions and a lack of coordination with key allies.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the most sensitive maritime routes in the world, has once again become the scene of major tensions after Iran decided to suspend the passage of oil tankers. The measure came just a few hours after the entire globe breathed a sigh of relief and welcomed the armistice negotiated by Donald Trump, which was supposed to ensure two weeks of peace in the Middle East.

Initially, on Wednesday morning, two oil tankers were granted permission to cross the strait, a sign that the agreement could have worked. However, a few hours later, the Iranian agency Fars announced that the transit had been completely halted, claiming that the suspension took place “simultaneously with Israel’s attacks on Lebanon”.

In this context, Tehran has threatened to destroy ships that attempt to pass without approval and has imposed a fee of up to 2 million dollars per oil tanker, according to international press. Meanwhile, a drone attack targeted a strategic oil pipeline of Saudi Arabia, the East-West pipeline, an incident that has amplified the sense of instability in the region.
