Iran has decided not to send its enriched uranium stockpile abroad, two high-ranking Iranian sources have stated. The directive was issued by Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

“The directive of the supreme leader and the consensus within the establishment is that the enriched uranium stockpile must not leave the country”, said one of the sources, under the protection of anonymity.

Reuters reported on Thursday, May 21, that Israeli officials have stated that the US President, Donald Trump, has assured Israel that the Iranian stockpile of highly enriched uranium, necessary for the manufacture of a nuclear weapon, will be removed from Iran and that any peace agreement must include this provision.

According to the same sources, Iranian officials believe that sending nuclear material out of the country would make Iran more vulnerable to potential future attacks from the USA and Israel.

The supreme leader has the final say in the most important state matters. The White House and the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have not responded to requests for comments.

These days, an Iranian official has warned that Tehran could enrich uranium to a military level if it is attacked again.

“One of Iran’s options in the event of a new attack could be enrichment to 90%. We will analyze this in parliament”, wrote the spokesperson for the Parliamentary Commission for National Security and Foreign Policy in Iran, Ebrahim Rezaei on platform X.

Also, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the war with Iran will continue as long as the country holds stocks of highly enriched uranium.
