The Supreme Leader of Iran is in a “state of unconsciousness” in the holy city and is incapable of leading the war-torn country, according to a report by intelligence services, quoted by Daily Mail.
An assessment that appears to be based on American and Israeli information indicates that Mojtaba Khamenei is hospitalized for a “serious” medical condition in the religious city of Qom.
Khamenei, aged 56, has not been seen in public since he took over the supreme leader role from his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated on the first day of the war.
The regime had previously reported that he suffered a “minor” leg injury in the attack that killed his father – as well as his mother, wife, and one of his sons – but never explained his absence.
However, the new diplomatic note, transmitted to Gulf allies and seen by The Times, suggests that his condition is much more serious than previously thought.
The note mentions: “Mojtaba Khamenei is hospitalized in Qom in a serious condition, being unable to participate in any decision-making by the regime.”
