Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that currently there are no ongoing or scheduled discussions with Iran. At the same time, according to the American leader, the Strait of Hormuz remains open.

“There are no discussions or conversations underway or scheduled with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The naval blockade remains fully in force. The Strait of Hormuz is open and operational. All sea mines have been removed or detonated,” Trump wrote on his social network, Truth Social.

On the other hand, Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated on Tuesday that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States respects the conditions of the ceasefire agreement signed in June and expired on Monday.

The conditions stated by Tehran include the lifting of the US blockade on Iranian ports, the lifting of oil sanctions, the release of Iran’s frozen assets abroad, and the cessation of threats and military operations on all fronts, writes Agerpres.

The interim agreement between the USA and Iran has allowed for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the easing of sanctions against the regime in Tehran, and the parties were to conduct negotiations for two months, in order to reach a final peace agreement. The discussions also included the nuclear dossier and restrictive measures.

On July 8, after accusing Iran of again attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump ordered the resumption of air strikes on Iran, following three months in which they had been halted by a ceasefire. Trump then stated that he no longer considered the June agreement valid and ordered the resumption of the naval blockade. Iran retaliated with new strikes on American military bases located in allied countries in the region.
