Russia wants to strike Ukraine from Moldova as well, claims Maia Sandu during a broadcast on Radio Moldova. The President made the statement in the context of a New York Times investigation, which mentioned that Moldova is the Kremlin’s number 2 priority.
The President mentioned that Moscow wants to turn our country into a bridgehead towards the EU, reports realitatea.md. According to the head of state, the information is not new, and people say they are tired of these warnings, while the authorities are trying to free the state from dependence on Russia.
“I don’t think this is news. We are talking, and the state institutions are talking about these plans of Russia. Russia is meddling everywhere. We are interesting to Russia from the perspective of the war in Ukraine, primarily because Russia would like to strike Ukraine also from our side, from our border. At the same time, it would be a bridgehead towards the European Union.”
“I have spoken about this, as have people from various state institutions on numerous occasions. I know there are people who say they are tired of these warnings. We see that Russia’s aggression continues, primarily against Ukraine, but also against many other countries. (…)”, Maia Sandu commented on the information published by the NYT.
The President further stated that the authorities have managed to detach Moldova from Russian influence in the field of remittances, energy resources, and exports, compared to 15 years ago.
