The Chief Prosecutor of Palermo, Maurizio de Lucia, stated on Tuesday that the mafia is looking to purchase military drones similar to those used in the war in Ukraine. According to him, some of the weapons used by criminals come from the former Yugoslavia.
Such ammunition was discovered in the town of Salento, writes hotnews.ro. According to him, the Italian authorities are not prepared to deal with the potential use of drones by the mafia.
“However, we are aware of the mafia’s interest in more sophisticated weapons. We have indications of the acquisition of ammunition intended for launching from drones – weapons against which we are not prepared to defend ourselves,” stated the Italian prosecutor.
The prosecutor further stated during a report in front of the parliamentarians, that criminal organizations from Italy are trying to build an entire arsenal, both in Palermo and in other areas.
