JD Vance will travel to Hungary on April 7 and 8. The American Vice President will meet with Viktor Orbán, just before the parliamentary elections that will decide the fate of the nationalist Prime Minister, an ally of Donald Trump.

JD Vance will be accompanied on this journey by his wife, Usha Vance. The official has scheduled a speech dedicated to the “generous partnership between Hungary and the United States”.

The 41-year-old conservator is, within the American administration, one of the most fervent critics of centrist and progressive European governments, and one of the most frequent supporters of radical right-wing formations in Europe, notes news.ro. His visit seems to be a show of support for Viktor Orbán, ahead of the elections on April 12.

The Hungarian Prime Minister, in power for 16 years and close to Moscow, would benefit, according to analysts, from the secret assistance of Russia to increase his chances of re-election.

Members of the Council of Europe’s Parliament expressed their concern on Wednesday about the “toxic” nature of the campaign, marked by the “incendiary propaganda” of the nationalist leader, who is facing economic and social discontent.
