High Representative Kaja Kallas has harshly accused the United States of exerting pressure on Ukraine to capitulate under conditions exclusively favorable to Russian President Vladimir Putin, precisely at the moment when a new round of peace negotiations was taking place in Oslo, Norway.
“American negotiators have been trying to push Ukraine to surrender for almost two years,” Kaja Kallas declared on Tuesday in the European Parliament.
“The reason why Ukraine did not surrender under Putin’s conditions is because Europe supported Ukraine.”
Kallas also argued that European presence at the negotiation table is necessary to “balance” the positions adopted by the White House, which have increasingly leaned towards Moscow’s interests, writes Euronews.
The relations between the USA and Europe have deteriorated since the American President Donald Trump concluded a diesel supply agreement with Putin and relaxed sanctions until April 2027, without obtaining any concessions from Russia in return.
