North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a museum dedicated to the defense industry, where an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States is on display, announced the state news agency KCNA on Tuesday.

The information was published a day after US President Donald Trump stated that he might meet with Kim during a planned visit to Asia. Trump is set to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, organized in China in mid-November, writes Reuters.

Kim attended the inauguration of the new Museum of the Defense Revolution on Sunday, accompanied by his wife, Ri Sol Ju, and his daughter, known as Ju Ae, according to KCNA.

The photos published by the North Korean agency show that the museum hosts a series of weapons developed under Kim’s leadership, from drones to the intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-20.

An exhibition illustrating the range of the rocket

An exhibition set up in front of the Hwasong-20 launcher seemed to present a model of a multiple warhead rocket and a world map illustrating action ranges that exceeded the continental territory of the United States, reaching as far as the Middle East, Australia, and South America. This was the interpretation of Shin Jong-woo, the Secretary General of the Korean Forum for Defense and Security.

“The exhibition seems to have the purpose of highlighting the achievements of Kim’s scientific development program in the field of defense,” Shin declared.

He appreciated that the presentation has the appearance of a propaganda action intended to offer Pyongyang a strategic advantage in view of a possible summit between North Korea and the United States.
