British Defense Minister Wes Streeting advocated for Ukraine on Thursday in Washington, arguing that it will ”contribute to American power” in the future, amid rising tensions between Washington and Kiev, reports AFP.

Wes Streeting is set to meet with his American counterpart, Pete Hegseth, at the Pentagon.

Supporting Ukraine presents ”enormous opportunities for the United States in terms of military knowledge and defense industry relations”, said the British dignitary during an intervention at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think tank based in Washington.

Streeting described Ukraine as ”an ally that gives much more than it receives”. ”We have moved from the phase of training Ukrainians by us to one of being trained by Ukrainians”, he summarized.

This plea in the US capital comes shortly after American President Donald Trump resorted to a new spectacular rapprochement with Vladimir Putin’s Russia, concluding a surprise agreement with Moscow that provides for the lifting of certain sanctions to allow the entry of Russian diesel into the American and global market.
