Russian citizens should not trust messages about the “corruption and ruin” of their country, as these are “deceptive narratives” promoted by “Western media and opinion leaders outside Russia”. The statement belongs to Sergei Kislyak, first vice-president of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, during a round table on the topic “Tools to combat the information aggression of the West against the Russian Federation”, organized in Moscow, according to the TASS agency.
According to the senator, the West aims, through these messages, to provoke a “strategic defeat” of the Russian Federation. Kislyak argued that Western platforms propagate the image of a Russia that is “barbaric and almost isolated”, seeking to “nullify” the country’s achievements, culture, language, and history.
The official added that modern technologies amplify this “information aggression” and contribute to the promotion, both among Russians and foreigners, of “stereotypes” about endemic corruption and economic decline within the Russian Federation.
