Minsk received a personal letter from the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, addressed to the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, according to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Ruslan Varanov, reports Al Jazeera.

In the message, Trump proposes the establishment of a “Council for Peace”, a new international organization intended to contribute to the resolution of conflict situations, including the crisis in Gaza.

In the official statement it is specified: “The American side sees Belarus – and this is directly mentioned in the text of the call – as a state ready to assume the noble responsibility of building lasting peace and setting an example, investing in a safe and prosperous future for future generations.”

The Belarusian MFA also emphasized that it considers this proposal “a recognition of personal merits and the international authority of the head of the Belarusian state”, and the invitation was transmitted and received positively by Lukashenko.

The Ministry further clarified that Belarus is “ready to participate in the activities of the Council for Peace” and hopes that the organization will extend its competences far beyond the initial proposed mandate, which would allow it to play a larger role in resolving international conflicts.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Administration in Bucharest confirmed that the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, also received a similar letter from Trump, in which our country is invited to become a founding member of the “Council for Peace”.

The initiative is part of the American administration’s plans to expand the mandate of this body, initially created for the Gaza Strip, to include other conflict zones, such as Ukraine and Venezuela, according to the cited sources.
