The Moldovan Prime Minister, Alexandru Munteanu, announced that the oil infrastructure of Chisinau International Airport (AIC) is returning to state ownership, the decision being taken on December 15 by the Council for the Examination of Investments of Importance to State Security.

The Moldovan Prime Minister announced that the Council for the Examination of Investments of Importance to State Security has decided to refuse the approval of the investment activity of the company “Lukoil-Moldova”, which belongs to the Russian group Lukoil, one of the largest oil companies in Russia, on the “territory of the Republic of Moldova and to return, within 20 days, to the situation prior to 2005, when the infrastructure of the oil complex” of AIC was taken over.

Therefore, within 20 days, all assets, according to the 2005 contract, are to be transferred to state ownership.

Thus, within 20 days, all assets are to be transferred to the ownership of the Moldovan state, the decision being taken due to the non-fulfillment by the company “Lukoil-Moldova” of several requirements set by the Council since May 2024.

“At the same time, the Working Group for the Management of Risks Related to International Sanctions Imposed on Lukoil has notified the competent authorities to investigate the entire procedure from 2005 regarding the takeover of the oil terminal at the Airport by Lukoil”, added the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Moldovan Prime Minister emphasized that this decision is one “necessary for the protection of national security and critical infrastructure objectives”.

At the beginning of November, the Moldovan Government announced that it is negotiating with Lukoil for the takeover of the kerosene supply infrastructure of Chisinau International Airport, in the context where the Russian company can no longer supply fuel after November 21.
