Maia Sandu has told European leaders about the issue of the peaceful withdrawal of Russian troops, illegally stationed in the Transnistrian region. The head of state believes that this is the major obstacle to achieving reintegration.
The President of Moldova mentioned in the “Black Box” show on TV8 that EU support could be useful in this context. If the Europeans will grant it, the other issues are solvable.
“There are countries that ask how things can happen, if we fail to achieve reintegration. Now, I have said what the main problem is. It is how we get rid of the presence of the Russian army peacefully. This is the biggest problem. And if the European Union can help us solve this problem, we have put this problem, the other elements are solvable,” said Maia Sandu.
The authorities in Chisinau have two scenarios for Moldova’s accession to the EU. The first is the integration of the already reunified country, and the second – entry into the EU in two steps, first the constitutionally controlled territory, then the reintegrated Transnistrian region within the legal framework of the country.
