President Maia Sandu has revoked the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova for five men born in the Transnistrian region and enlisted in the Operational Group of Russian Troops (GOTR). The head of state signed a decree to this effect on November 27.

According to the documents, citizenship was revoked for Oleg Boț, Vladimir Coblai, Pavel Morozov, Vladimir Osipenco, Maxim Vasilatii. The decrees come into effect on the date of signing.

The spokesperson for the Presidency, Igor Zaharov, stated that the measure was applied because the targeted individuals are enlisted in Russian troops illegally stationed in the Transnistrian region.

Also, on November 27, Maia Sandu signed the decree by which she revoked the citizenship for Igor Frolov and Davor Trajkovic. They were left without citizenship because they allegedly obtained it fraudulently.

This is not the first decision of this kind. In July 2025, the head of state revoked the citizenship for another five men from the Republic of Moldova, who voluntarily joined a Russian military unit in the region. According to the legislation, the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova can be revoked for individuals who voluntarily enlist in the armed forces of a foreign state, obtain citizenship fraudulently or commit serious acts that harm the state.
