The formal decision regarding Moldova’s accession to the EU could be made in the coming weeks, hopes Maia Sandu. The statement was made by the President of Moldova at the Globsec forum in Prague.

The head of state pointed out that the decision regarding the EU expansion and the accession of the Republic of Moldova “should be in Brussels, not in Moscow”, reports Moldova 1. Moreover, according to the president, European integration will help Moldova defend its democracy.

“For us, integration into the European Union is truly the strategy for long-term survival as a democracy. Moldova has built its resilience, we have worked hard, but it is difficult for a small country to stand alone for a very long period of time. And we do not believe that Russia will cease to exert pressure on us in the near future. That is why we are so determined and so committed to integration into the EU,” declared Maia Sandu.

The official also revealed that the Republic of Moldova has worked very hard and is prepared to begin accession negotiations with the community bloc.
