NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, appealed on Wednesday to the Alliance member states to intensify their military support for Ukraine and not to let the conflict fall into the background.

The statement was made at the beginning of a meeting of the Contact Group for the defense of Ukraine, held in Berlin, where the states that militarily support Kiev in the war with Russia participate.

“We must be careful that we are able to provide uninterrupted support for Ukraine,” Rutte indicated.

He also set an ambitious target for this year’s military aid.

“We need to ensure that Ukraine has what it needs to continue the fight. Therefore, there is broad agreement on this matter on both sides of the Atlantic”, he further added.

In this context, the NATO chief has asked member states to contribute towards achieving a goal of 60 billion dollars for the support provided to Ukraine in 2026.

According to Rutte, the main priorities discussed at the meeting in Berlin are air defense, drones, missiles, and ammunition for long-range artillery.

He argued that Ukraine continues to resist on the front and inflicts significant losses on the Russian army.

“Ukraine maintains its positions on the battlefield and inflicts enormous losses on the Russians, over 35,000 (soldiers) per month,” he declared.
