Consultations, prescriptions, medical records: the information of nearly 19 million Poles has been compromised in a cyber attack on a medical software provider, announced the authorities in Warsaw on Wednesday, reports Agerpres.
The Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, described the incident as “one of the largest” cyber attacks in the history of this country with 37 million inhabitants.
“Nothing at present indicates that we are dealing with an external attack, originating from Russia or any other state,” he declared.
According to the minister, the initial data from the investigation suggests that the attackers were financially motivated. He ruled out the possibility of paying a ransom and promised that those responsible will be pursued “relentlessly”.
