Dmitri Medvedev has questioned the ability of the US to mediate international conflicts, arguing that Washington’s actions in recent decades contradict the image of the “arbiter” it tries to project on the world stage.

Dmitri Medvedev, Vice President of the Russian Security Council, stated on Thursday, April 30, that the United States can hardly be seen as an effective mediator in the world’s major conflicts, considering the military interventions and political decisions they have made in various regions.

Dmitri Medvedev is considered one of the most radical officials in the Moscow power circle and has stood out in recent years with numerous harsh statements towards the West. His messages, often formulated in a direct and provocative language, have become a constant in the public discourse promoted by a part of the Russian political elite since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

The most recent comments of this kind were made at a forum dedicated to education, where the Russian official criticized the way Washington tries to present itself as an “arbiter” capable of facilitating diplomatic solutions between states in conflict, reports Reuters.

“It’s hard to believe that a country that kidnaps presidents and triggers conflicts with ease can act as an effective mediator in all situations,” stated Dmitri Medvedev.
