In the city of Djankoi in northern Crimea, mobile phone service will only be available for four hours, twice a day. More precisely, residents and visitors of the region will be able to make calls between the hours of 8:00 – 12:00 and between 14:00 – 18:00, according to local authorities.

Citizens are asked to take into account the new schedule “when planning their calls, using mobile internet, and solving issues that require a stable connection”. How long the restrictions will last is not yet known.

The local operator “Djankoi Online” has also published a program for providing internet in nearby localities.

Crimea continues to be the epicenter of a major energy crisis, caused by intense Ukrainian attacks on the peninsula’s infrastructure, as well as on Russian oil refineries. On June 26, a state of emergency was declared in the region. On July 6, the entire Crimea was left without electricity, then without water.

In Djankoi, electricity is still limited, and water is supplied only twice a day – between 6:00 – 9:00 and between 18:00 – 21:00, writes The Moscow Times. A similar situation is also recorded in other cities in the north of the peninsula.

On June 24, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced the launch of an operation in Crimea, to force Russia to negotiate peace. The Minister of Defense from Kiev, Mihailo Fedorov, announced plans to isolate the peninsula through intensive attacks on logistics, the power grid, and military installations.

The Russian authorities justified the absence of mobile telephony by stating that Russian soldiers would prevent Ukrainian drone attacks, as cellular networks are used to control the flight devices.
