Alexandru Munteanu has announced his resignation from the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, stating that he can no longer exercise his mandate in accordance with his principles and beliefs. He thanked his colleagues for their collaboration and stated that he will continue to serve the Republic of Moldova, regardless of the position he will hold in the future, reports IPN.

“I accepted the proposal to be Prime Minister with great responsibility and with the firm conviction that I can contribute to changing things for the better. The moment I realized that I could no longer exercise my mandate in accordance with the principles and beliefs I hold, I chose to leave”, the official conveyed.

Munteanu will continue to exercise the interim. President Maia Sandu said that next week she will launch consultations to appoint a new head of Government.

According to the head of state, Munteanu had the freedom to govern. The president refuted the revelations that appeared in the public space about the prime minister’s disagreements with several members of the PAS. According to her, there were only some differences with the Minister of Education, Dan Perciun.

Speaker Igor Grosu, the leader of PAS – the party that holds the majority in Parliament, announced that “in the coming days, we will discuss the necessary actions to be taken in the next period, including key reforms, fiscal policy, and the wage law. We will listen to more opinions and we will very carefully analyze the expectations of society”.
