The Russian Ambassador to the United Nations stated on Tuesday that the Kremlin has information suggesting that Ukraine intends to launch military drones from Latvia and other Baltic states. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on security in Ukraine, Vasily Nebenzia asserted that the administration in Kiev has already deployed forces in the Baltic state.

According to him, Russian intelligence services have managed to identify the launch areas of unmanned aircraft. Nebenzia warned that Latvia’s NATO membership will not protect it from Moscow’s retaliation.

“I would like to mention that anyone contemplating assisting Kiev in carrying out terrorist attacks on Russian territory should be aware that modern intelligence services allow for the determination of drone launch coordinates. Reliable data can also be obtained by examining the wreckage of drones, as was the case with Zelensky’s regime attempt to attack the Russian presidential residence with drones, in December last year. A retaliatory attack in these circumstances would be inevitable,” Nebenzia said.

Latvia’s representative to the Security Council, Sanita Pavluta-Deslandes, immediately rejected these claims, describing them as “fiction,” reports news.ro. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski announced last week that Ukraine will send experts to Latvia to help protect the country’s airspace.

The Baltic states declared in April that they have never allowed their territories and airspace to be used for drone attacks against targets in Russia.
